Accreditations of High Schools (Grades 10-12) in China

Maple Leaf high schools in China are currently transitioning from BC, Canada external accreditation to that of Cognia, United States and external academic standard equivalency of NARIC, United Kingdom.

Cognia (formerly AdvancED) is USA based and it is the largest education accrediting body in the world, accrediting more than 32,000 schools involving more than 20 million students in many countries. Its accreditation incorporates accreditation from three of the six accreditation commissions recognized by the USA national government. Cognia accreditation includes accreditation by:

  • North Central Association of Schools and Colleges (NCA) Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement
  • Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NWAC) Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement
  • Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement

During the 2015-2016 school year, all Maple Leaf high schools underwent an external accreditation process with Cognia. The schools, their staff, students and parents were all engaged in an internal self assessment against a set of rubrics that reflect best practice in the field of education, instruction, and school organization. These results were analyzed with those assessed by Cognia’s external inspection teams. The results were successful accreditation of all high schools, and this sets the journey for a five-year growth plan to continue to enhance the strong practices in the schools as well as focus on the areas that would enhance the schools to thrive going forward.

Since then, Maple Leaf Educational Systems has also achieved Cognia accreditation for:

  • All Maple Leaf Elementary and Middle (as well as High) Schools
  • Maple Leaf Corporate Systems
  • Maple Leaf World Schools Curriculum

UK NARIC is the designated national agency in the United Kingdom for the benchmarking of curricula and recognition of international qualifications and skills. It is a national agency with global reach, an important world reference point for qualifications. UK NARIC has 1,000 organizational members across 62 countries. Collectively, these members have 17,000 personnel using UK-NARIC online data and resources to select and recruit qualifying candidates for work and study. UK NARIC’s database of international qualifications is the largest anywhere, with over 4,000 qualifications from more than 200 countries, which includes curricula comparisons and bench-marking, and it is now extending to cutting-edge grade comparisons data for an expanding number of countries.

Maple Leaf Educational Systems (Maple Leaf) and the National Recognition Information Centre for the United Kingdom (UK NARIC) have signed a three-year curriculum analysis, assessment, bench-marking agreement entitled Independent Review and Benchmarking Analysis of the Maple Leaf World Schools Program. As Maple Leaf develops and implements its Grade 10-12 World Schools Curriculum, UK-NARIC will be assessing and benchmarking Maple Leaf’s World Schools Curriculum academic level with USA, Canada and UK curricula. This independent analysis will assist Maple Leaf to ensure that its World Schools Curriculum is of world standard as it implements grade 10 in the 2020-21 school year, grade 11 in 2021-2022 and grade 12 in 2022-23.

High Schools in Other Countries

Maple Leaf High Schools in Canada, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore are also certified by their respective Ministries of Education, as well as Cognia. The Kuala Lumpur School is also accredited for UK A-Level and the Singapore School by IB.

Maple Leaf High Schools’ external accreditations provide universities considering and accepting our students with an assurance of the validity of the students’ graduation results and curriculum academic standard, which leads to quicker admission processes.
